Khwab means dream. This king-size bedsheet is hand block printed in Sanganer, near Jaipur, by chhipa printers - the community that has carried this craft through generations of the same families. Every length is pressed block by block, by hand, onto percale cotton woven for a cool, crisp finish that gets softer with each wash.

The craft

Sanganer has printed cloth for over four centuries, and the chhipa printers who work there still cut their patterns into teak blocks by hand. Each colour in the design needs its own block, laid down in sequence across the full length of cloth — one printer, one block, one impression at a time. A single king bedsheet takes 6 hours at the table.

We use azo free dyes, which exclude the aromatic amine compounds restricted for skin-contact textiles. Colours are set by washing and sun-drying.

Why percale

Percale is a one-over-one weave - tighter and flatter than sateen, which is what makes it breathe. It sleeps cool in summers and in air-conditioned rooms, and it develops a soft, lived-in hand over the first few washes rather than pilling.

Care

• First wash separately in cold water
• Machine wash gentle, mild detergent, no bleach
• Dry in shade; direct sun will fade the print over time
• Warm iron on the reverse

Good to know

• Hand block printed, so slight variation in alignment, colour depth and the occasional overlap is inherent to the process — it is how you tell hand block from machine screen print
• Each piece is individually printed and will differ a little from the photograph
• Actual colours may vary slightly with your screen settings
